Maternity record standard
As part of its improvements to maternity services, the NHS is switching to digital maternity records that make information about a woman’s health easier and quicker to access.

Maternity Services Data Set
MSDS is a patient-level data set that captures key information at each stage of the maternity care pathway including mother’s demographics, booking appointments, admissions and re-admissions, screening tests, labour and delivery along with baby’s demographics, admissions, diagnoses and screening tests.
Digital Maturity Assessment
The Digital Maturity Self-Assessment measures how well secondary care providers in England are making use of digital technology to achieve a health and care system that is paper-free at the point of care.

Exemption certificates are given to:
- people with certain medical conditions
- pregnant women and those who have had a baby in the last 12 months
- people who receive certain tax credits and have a low household income
- people who apply to the NHS Low Income Scheme, including students and pensioners
